What does the Syften app for Slack do?

It sends new Syften keyword matches into channels you choose. Each message includes the source, title or context, an excerpt, and a link to the original conversation.

The app is a non-interactive notifier. You create and refine filters in Syften; Slack is where the right team sees and acts on the result.

From the monitored source

The actual conversation, not a mystery score

Read enough context to decide whether the post deserves a reply, handoff, research note, or no action.

Into the channel that owns it

Different filters can go to different channels

Use tags to separate sales signals, support issues, product feedback, brand mentions, and client work.

From filter to Slack channel

Set up Slack delivery in four clear steps

Start with the conversation you want to catch, then connect the workspace and choose exactly where that kind of match belongs.

1
Define

Create a focused filter

Track a brand, competitor, domain, author, recommendation phrase, support problem, or another conversation with a clear owner.

2
Connect

Add Syften to Slack

Open Setup → Slack in Syften, authorize the workspace, and return to the channel picker.

3
Route

Choose channels and tags

Send every alert to one channel, or map tagged filters to separate destinations such as sales, support, product, or client channels.

4
Verify

Send a test message

Confirm the destination during setup, then let new qualifying matches arrive with their source context and link.

One workspace, several alert workflows

Route the conversation by responsibility

A single mention channel can work for a founder. As the team grows, tagged filters keep urgent signals close to the person who can respond without copying every alert everywhere.

Buying intent to sales

Send recommendation requests, competitor alternatives, pricing discussions, and migration questions to a channel someone reviews while the thread is active.

#sales-signals

Problems to support

Route bug reports, unresolved questions, documentation gaps, and product confusion to the team that can help publicly.

#customer-voice

Feedback to product

Collect repeated use cases, feature requests, integration needs, and market language without mixing them into urgent sales alerts.

#product-research

Clients to separate channels

Give each customer or campaign its own tag and destination so agency monitoring stays organized and reviewable.

#client-acme

Brand mentions to marketing

Put articles, community posts, social mentions, videos, podcast references, and public praise where the team can reuse or amplify them.

#brand-mentions

Known authors to the team

Track a founder, customer, partner, competitor, or advocate and route their public posts into a focused account-watch channel.

#account-watch

A notifier, not another chat bot

The Slack app has one narrow job

Syften uses Slack access to show available public and private channel names during setup and to post alerts into the channels you select. It does not request Slack channel-history permissions.

The filters, archive, and notification rules live in Syften. If someone writes to the app in Slack, it points them back to Syften setup because the app is intentionally non-interactive.

Read privacy and data-processing terms

Select destinations

See the workspace's available channels so you can choose where each alert workflow belongs.

Post keyword alerts

Deliver a matching source, excerpt, and link to the selected public or private channel.

No channel-history scope

Slack is the destination for Syften alerts, not a source for reading your workspace conversations.

Built for alerts with an owner

Slack delivery works when the channel implies the next action

Syften is a strong fit when your team already works in Slack and wants useful public conversations to arrive beside sales, support, product, marketing, or client work—without asking everyone to monitor another inbox.

At Rewardful, we're huge believers in word-of-mouth marketing. I've used most of the social monitoring tools on the market and most have a lot of noise in the results or miss important conversations happening online. Syften returns the most relevant social mentions with the least amount of noise out of all the tools I've tested so far. Their community listening is the best on the market and I love how you can fine tune by source.
I love that Syften monitors all the communities I am part of but don't have enough time to check all day. Now, I can check my email and see conversations happening on Twitter, Reddit, Indie Hackers, and many more places. It's incredibly useful. Worth every dollar.

We use Syften to react to people saying things about us on the internet every single day. It's a set once and forget tool that just helps your team keep your pulse on whatever it is you care about.
Syften is awesome. I use it for my business so I can monitor the brand, and participate in online discussions which can help us attract new customers. I also use it personally to keep track of niche subjects that I'm interested in like emerging tech and products.

We love Syften at PostHog and find it incredibly useful for listening to our open-source community. The Slack integration enables our entire team to find ways to connect with our users, whether it's the Marketing team sharing new content or the Engineering team answering technical questions. The filtering system is especially powerful and helps us separate the signal from the noise.
I've written a couple books and like to keep an eye on how and where folks are talking about them. Syften has helped me catch several key conversations that I otherwise wouldn't have seen. Even on the days without any notable alerts, I'm still happy to know that I haven't missed anything. A very useful tool.

Syften has become integral to our business. It allows us to monitor *and* respond in real-time using their super simple webhooks. For example, when people mention our competitors being expensive on Twitter, Syften finds it and enables us to respond instantly with Zapier. It's paid for itself many times over. It even helped us secure $5M in funding for one of our community members. Michael has been overwhelmingly supportive over the past 18+ months we've been a customer and we couldn't be more grateful.
I use Syften every day and have been for a year. I looked at various other social listening tools but they were mostly aimed at big brands and enterprise customers and carried a hefty price tag. Syften tracks all of the major networks that I'm interested (even ones the big tools don't) and it's affordable for businesses of every size. Every day I get an email digest of people talking about my product for me to take immediate action on.

I gather the mentions I get from Syften and add them to our customer sales and partner presentations to show how our product is gaining mindshare amongst users on Reddit and forums. These slides are very impactful.
Syften has been a great tool to understand in which communities my website is being mentioned, or topics relevant to my business. It allowed me to engage in meaningful discussions and to identify some important actors in my niche.

Syften has enabled us to keep an eye on the topics related to our product. We can easily track posts about discount codes, email marketing, and e-commerce. We can then suggest using our service, or just be helpful answering questions on subjects that we are familiar with.

Syften for Slack FAQ

What does the Syften app for Slack do?

It delivers Syften keyword alerts into Slack channels you choose. Each alert includes context from the matching public post, comment, page, video, podcast, or other monitored source and a link to the original.

Does the app monitor messages inside our Slack workspace?

No. This app is a delivery integration and does not request Slack channel-history permissions. Syften separately monitors a defined list of publicly available Slack communities; that is a different feature explained on the Slack community monitoring page.

Is the Syften Slack app interactive?

No. It is intentionally a non-interactive notifier. Configure filters, destinations, and monitoring settings in Syften, then use Slack to read and act on the alerts.

How do I install the app for Slack?

Create a Syften account, open Setup → Slack, choose Add to Slack, authorize the workspace, and select a destination channel. You can send a test message before relying on live alerts.

Can different keyword alerts go to different Slack channels?

Yes. Add tags to Syften filters and map each tag to a Slack channel. For example, buying-intent filters can go to sales, problem reports to support, and each agency client to a separate channel.

Which Slack permissions does Syften request?

Syften requests permission to post messages and to list public and private channels so you can select alert destinations. It does not request channel-history permissions.

Can I send a test alert?

Yes. After selecting a channel in Syften Setup, use the Send test message action to verify that the app can post to the intended destination.

Which online sources can send alerts to Slack?

Slack delivery works with Syften results from the public web, Reddit, Hacker News, forums, GitHub, X/Twitter, YouTube, podcasts, Bluesky, supported public Slack communities, and other monitored sources available on your plan.
