Monitor X/Twitter for Keywords and Brand Mentions
Find public X/Twitter posts that name your brand, link to your site, compare competitors, ask for recommendations, or describe a problem your team can solve—even when nobody tags your account.
- Separate X/Twitter keyword queries
- Handles, names, domains, and post filters
- Alerts available with a delay of up to 15 minutes
- Slack, email, Zapier, API, webhooks
We need a lighter way to find public buying conversations for a small B2B team. Any recommendations that cover more than one network?
Can Syften monitor X/Twitter conversations?
Yes. Syften monitors public X/Twitter posts through saved X search queries. Track handles, names, domains, exact phrases, competitors, recommendation language, authors, languages, links, media, replies, quotes, and retweets.
X/Twitter monitoring is configured separately from Syften's community filters. Matches can be qualified with AI and delivered to Slack, email, Zapier, API, or webhooks.
Public post alerts within 15 minutes
Use X API-style search syntax, then route matching posts directly to the person who can reply, support, research, or follow up.
A paid add-on with a few syntax differences
Cashtags and the min_replies, min_faves, and min_retweets operators are not supported.
X/Twitter conversations worth catching
The strongest alerts reveal a person, problem, comparison, or public question your team can act on—not merely another occurrence of a keyword.
Untagged brand mentions
Posts naming your company, product, domain, founder, article, or project without using the official account handle.
Competitor comparisons
Pricing objections, missing features, complaints, migrations, alternatives, and replies where another tool is being reconsidered.
Recommendation requests
People asking which tool, service, workflow, or approach fits an active problem and set of constraints.
Support and product feedback
Bug reports, confusing workflows, feature requests, pricing concerns, and public questions that never reach the help desk.
Partner and campaign mentions
Posts about referral links, affiliates, coupon codes, creators, launch partners, sponsorships, or campaigns worth reviewing.
Company post amplification
Original posts from your own account that teammates should see, discuss, or help reach the right early audience.
How X/Twitter monitoring works in Syften
Build one query around one job, use X's operators to control the stream, then let AI qualification and routing turn a raw match into useful work.
Map how people identify you
Include the account handle, brand and product names, domain, common misspellings, competitors, and category language.
Give each query one job
Keep brand coverage, buying intent, competitor complaints, support issues, and your own posts in distinct alert streams.
Use X syntax and AI together
Add language, author, reply, retweet, quote, link, and media operators, then apply AI when keywords alone are still noisy.
Send the post where action happens
Deliver matches to Slack, email, Zapier, API, or webhooks. Alerts are available with a delay of up to 15 minutes.
People talk about products without tagging their accounts
In Syften's archive analysis, 21,857 of 70,125 cleaned original tweets from brand and product searches had no account handle anywhere in the post.
That is 31.17%, rounded to 31.2%. A handle-only query could not have found those posts. Add the brand name, product names, domain, spelling variants, and comparison language people use when they are talking to each other instead of trying to notify you.
This is a result from Syften's archived matches, with a software and technical-product skew—not an estimate for every brand conversation on X. Read the full methodology.
X/Twitter keyword query examples
These are X/Twitter queries, configured separately from Syften's community filters. Keep brand coverage, buying intent, competitor research, and account amplification separate so each alert has a clear owner.
Complete brand coverage
(@yourbrand OR "Your Brand" OR yourbrand.com) lang:en -from:yourbrand -is:retweetFind English posts naming or linking to your brand while excluding your own account and repeated retweets.
Buying-intent questions
("recommend" OR "alternative to" OR "switching from") ("support tool" OR "help desk")Find posts where someone is actively asking for a tool or comparing ways to solve a concrete problem.
Competitor frustration
(competitor OR competitor.com OR to:competitor) ("broken" OR "expensive" OR "alternative") -from:competitor -is:retweetFind complaints, migration language, and relevant replies without filling the feed with the competitor's own posts.
Company post amplification
from:yourbrand -is:reply -is:retweetNotify teammates when the company account publishes an original post so they can help useful announcements get early attention.
Has anyone moved away from Competitor lately? The reporting is useful, but the price and alert noise are getting hard to justify for our team.
X uses its own search syntax. Parenthesize OR groups liberally because operator precedence can be surprising. Cashtags and the min_replies, min_faves, and min_retweets operators are not supported. See the supported syntax.
Search, social listening, and precise alerts solve different jobs
Choose based on whether you want to investigate now, analyze conversation at scale, or send a small number of relevant posts to people who can act.
Investigate a known term on demand
Useful for a quick check when you remember to search. It does not continuously route every new matching post to the teammate responsible for the conversation.
Analyze brand conversation at scale
Useful for dashboards, sentiment, campaign reporting, share of voice, and broad social analytics. It can be more system than a small team needs for conversation alerts.
Receive precise, actionable posts
Useful when X query syntax, AI qualification, up to 15-minute delivery, and routing to Slack, email, Zapier, API, or webhooks matter.
The useful post should reach someone who can act
Syften is a strong fit when your team wants a small stream of public X/Twitter conversations and has someone ready to answer a question, support a user, learn from a comparison, thank an advocate, or route the signal elsewhere.

At Rewardful, we're huge believers in word-of-mouth marketing. I've used most of the social monitoring tools on the market and most have a lot of noise in the results or miss important conversations happening online. Syften returns the most relevant social mentions with the least amount of noise out of all the tools I've tested so far. Their community listening is the best on the market and I love how you can fine tune by source.
I love that Syften monitors all the communities I am part of but don't have enough time to check all day. Now, I can check my email and see conversations happening on Twitter, Reddit, Indie Hackers, and many more places. It's incredibly useful. Worth every dollar.

We use Syften to react to people saying things about us on the internet every single day. It's a set once and forget tool that just helps your team keep your pulse on whatever it is you care about.
Syften is awesome. I use it for my business so I can monitor the brand, and participate in online discussions which can help us attract new customers. I also use it personally to keep track of niche subjects that I'm interested in like emerging tech and products.

We love Syften at PostHog and find it incredibly useful for listening to our open-source community. The Slack integration enables our entire team to find ways to connect with our users, whether it's the Marketing team sharing new content or the Engineering team answering technical questions. The filtering system is especially powerful and helps us separate the signal from the noise.

I've written a couple books and like to keep an eye on how and where folks are talking about them. Syften has helped me catch several key conversations that I otherwise wouldn't have seen. Even on the days without any notable alerts, I'm still happy to know that I haven't missed anything. A very useful tool.

Syften has become integral to our business. It allows us to monitor *and* respond in real-time using their super simple webhooks. For example, when people mention our competitors being expensive on Twitter, Syften finds it and enables us to respond instantly with Zapier. It's paid for itself many times over. It even helped us secure $5M in funding for one of our community members. Michael has been overwhelmingly supportive over the past 18+ months we've been a customer and we couldn't be more grateful.
I use Syften every day and have been for a year. I looked at various other social listening tools but they were mostly aimed at big brands and enterprise customers and carried a hefty price tag. Syften tracks all of the major networks that I'm interested (even ones the big tools don't) and it's affordable for businesses of every size. Every day I get an email digest of people talking about my product for me to take immediate action on.

I gather the mentions I get from Syften and add them to our customer sales and partner presentations to show how our product is gaining mindshare amongst users on Reddit and forums. These slides are very impactful.
Syften has been a great tool to understand in which communities my website is being mentioned, or topics relevant to my business. It allowed me to engage in meaningful discussions and to identify some important actors in my niche.

Syften has enabled us to keep an eye on the topics related to our product. We can easily track posts about discount codes, email marketing, and e-commerce. We can then suggest using our service, or just be helpful answering questions on subjects that we are familiar with.

Frequently asked questions
Do you really search all of X/Twitter in real-time?
Yes, as a specialized X/Twitter keyword tracker, our goal is to have no more than a 15-minute delay.
How do I monitor X/Twitter brand mentions?
Add your brand name, product names, domain, and X/Twitter handle to an X/Twitter search query. Then exclude your own posts, retweets, noisy languages, and spam patterns so the alerts stay useful.
For example: (@syften_com OR syften) lang:en -from:@syften_com -is:retweet.
How do I monitor X/Twitter for keywords?
To monitor Twitter keywords, create a query with the words and phrases you care about, then route matches to Slack, email, Zapier, webhooks, or API. Syften supports exact phrases, OR groups, exclusions, language filters, account filters, and other X/Twitter search operators.
This is useful for brand mentions, competitor mentions, product names, category terms, and buying-intent phrases.
Can I monitor competitor mentions on X/Twitter?
Yes. Track competitor names, domains, handles, and comparison phrases, then exclude the competitor's own posts if you only want third-party discussion.
For example: (competitor OR competitor.com) -from:@competitor -is:retweet.
Is Syften the best X/Twitter monitoring tool available?
Syften is a good fit if you want fast, query-based X/Twitter alerts rather than a social listening dashboard. You can use X API-style search syntax, configure up to 65 X/Twitter filters, and route matches to Slack, email, Zapier, webhooks, or API. If you need sentiment dashboards or broad social reporting, a traditional social listening suite may be a better fit.
Can I exclude retweets and replies?
Yes. Add -is:retweet to exclude retweets and -is:reply to exclude replies. You can also exclude your own account with -from:@yourhandle.
Can people see if I search X/Twitter for keywords?
No. Syften monitors public X/Twitter posts that match your saved queries. The accounts you search for are not notified about your monitoring filters.
How will I receive notifications for my X/Twitter mentions?
You can receive your results through our Slack integration, email, Zapier, webhooks, or API.
Can I get Slack alerts for X/Twitter brand mentions?
Yes. Syften can send Twitter alerts for keywords and brand mentions to Slack, email, Zapier, webhooks, or API. Teams often route X/Twitter alerts to a shared Slack channel so the right person can reply quickly.
How will I know if it's working?
Track the replies you make from Syften alerts. For sales, note which replies lead to trials, demos, or customers. For support, count issues you caught before they reached your inbox. For post amplification, watch whether team likes and replies help important posts get early traction.
Do you support other communities, or just Twitter?
Syften monitors the public web and these communities:
- The public web (articles, changelogs, documentation, directories, product pages, and competitor blogs)
- X/Twitter
- Indie Hackers
- Hacker News
- GitHub
- ProductHunt
- The Stack Exchange family
- Forums
- Lobste.rs
- Dev.to
